Impact investing is an investment strategy that aims to generate specific and measureable social or environmental effects in addition to financial gains for investors.  Impact investments can be made in emerging or developed markets, and at market or below market rates of return.  Impact investing challenges the view that social and enviromental issues should only be addressed by philantropic donations, and that market investments should only focus on financial returns.  The rapidly growing sector provides capical to address the worlds issus in many areas including: sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, conservation, preservation, microfinance, healthcare, housing, and education.
